I would like to share about yesterday’s guest speaker session. We had guest speaker session by Dr. G S Suryaprakash date 19-06-2013 in the morning at 11:00 AM. He shared about his organization Bhoruka Charitable Trust was established in 1962 by the late Shri.Prabhu Dayal Agarwal.\


The Trust is engaged in developmental activities in different states of the country and presently, they are implementing various projects in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andaman Nicobar.


The Trust has been operating free health clinics in different states of southern India since its inception which is managed by our Bangalore office. Besides running dispensaries in Bangalore, Mumbai, Ahmadabad and Port Blair, the Bangalore office is also undertaking many health care development activities with the help of TCI- Bhoruka group companies and various government and other agencies. 


This office is mainly involved in the field of management and control of HIV/AIDS among the truckers, their associates and commercial sex workers.


Project office Bhorugram


1.     HIV/AIDS Awareness Program:

They are working with This Project is funded by KSAPS and covers the truckers driver and their associates, sex workers (female, male and eunuchs), Men Having sex with Men (MSM) and Injecting Drug users operating in Bangalore Urban Zone –V. The main activities conducted under this project during the reporting period are

·         Interacted with 19000 target groups (truckers their associates, Homilies, female and eunuch sex workers and slum dwellers).

·         Around 1.65 lakhs pieces of condoms were promoted among these groups and 730 STI cases were treated and counseled.

·         Identified and trained 55 Peer Educators among the primary and secondary stake holders.

 

Awareness Strategy

 

·         Street plays

·         Mobile Exhibition

·         Six health camps

·         STI and general health services

·         Voluntary Counseling and Testing

 

 2. School AIDS Education Program:

In order to create awareness for HIV/AIDS amongst the adolescent youths in the senior secondary schools, this program was initiated with the help of State Health Department. Under this program 21 secondary and senior secondary schools of Rajgarh and Churu blocks of the district were selected. Following activities were conducted:

 

3. Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Center Bhorugram

 

The Trust has been running a ten-bedded MCH Center at Bhorugram to provide medical and health facilities to the rural poor of Bhorugram and adjoining villages since its inception. The following activities were undertaken during the year


4. Natural Resource Management:


Rainwater harvesting for the Promotion of Horticulture: The agriculture is totally dependent on monsoon in this region and considering the frequent drought like situation a demonstration project for the promotion of arid horticulture using the rainwater was initiated with the help of Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. 

Under the project plantations of grafted Ber will be undertaken and the rainwater will be used for the irrigation purpose.
